This Privacy Policy explains how Kayel Apps (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use Kariel Desktop, Kariel Mobile, the Kariel Web Clipper browser extension, and the website at kariel.app (collectively, “Kariel”).

1. Our Local-First Approach

Kariel is a local-first digital asset management application. Your asset libraries, imported files, metadata, tags, notes, and local databases are stored on your devices. We do not operate a Kariel cloud service that uploads or stores the contents of your creative libraries, and we cannot view those contents through our account or subscription services.

An account is optional for local Free use. When you choose to sign in or use paid features, the limited account, purchase, and diagnostic information described below is processed by the relevant service providers.

2. Files, Photos, Videos, and Device Permissions

A. Managed and Referenced Imports

Kariel lets you import user-selected files as managed copies or, where supported, keep the originals in place and store references to them. Managed copies are saved in Kariel-controlled storage on your device. Referenced imports remain in their original location; Kariel stores the local reference and related library metadata so it can display and organize the item later.

Kariel does not upload imported files, thumbnails, file names, paths, tags, notes, or other library content to Kayel Apps servers.

B. Photo and Video Library Access

On mobile devices, Kariel may request access to photos and videos so you can browse device albums and thumbnails, select multiple items, and perform recurring managed or referenced imports. Access is used only for features you initiate in the app. You can limit or revoke this access in your device settings, although doing so may prevent Kariel from displaying or reopening affected media.

C. Camera and File Access

If you choose to capture a photo or video, Kariel requests camera access and saves the resulting item according to your selected import workflow. File-picker access is used only for files or locations you select. Kariel does not activate the camera or select files without your action.

3. Local Desktop Connections

Kariel Mobile can optionally connect to Kariel Desktop over a local network. Pairing information, local network addresses, tokens, and device keys are stored on your devices. When you use this feature, library metadata, previews, and requested media may be transferred directly between your paired devices over your local network. This connection does not route your creative library through Kayel Apps servers.

You should enable Desktop mobile access only on a trusted private network and revoke pairing credentials when a device should no longer have access.

4. Account and Authentication Data

Kariel offers Google Sign-In and Apple Sign-In through Firebase Authentication for account and subscription features.

We use this information to authenticate you, maintain your Kariel account, and associate subscription access with the correct user. Signing in does not give Kariel access to Google Drive, iCloud files, contacts, or unrelated provider data.

5. Subscriptions and Payments

Kariel uses RevenueCat to manage subscription products, purchase status, entitlements, and restoration across supported platforms. Purchases are processed by the applicable store, including the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Kayel Apps does not receive or store your complete credit-card or bank-account details. Payment credentials are handled by the applicable app store or payment processor.

6. Diagnostics, Analytics, and App Metrics

RevenueCat automatically processes limited app, device, installation, and purchase information needed to operate subscriptions. Kariel Desktop may also send numerical product attributes to RevenueCat, such as the number of libraries, assets, tags, or smart folders, along with app version, language, and theme. These attributes do not include asset content, file names, file paths, folder names, tag text, notes, or thumbnails.

On supported Apple builds, Kariel uses Firebase Analytics to record limited app events such as app launches, screen views, authentication actions, purchases, and feature activity. These events may be associated with a pseudonymous user or installation identifier. Kariel does not use this information for targeted advertising and does not include advertising SDKs.

7. Kariel Web Clipper

Kariel Web Clipper connects your browser to Kariel Desktop running on the same device. The extension accesses information only when needed for a feature you initiate. Depending on your action, this may include:

The extension does not continuously track your browsing history. Selected content and related metadata are transferred to Kariel Desktop through a loopback connection on your device. The extension may request selected media from its source website to preview or import it; that website receives the ordinary network information associated with the request, such as your IP address.

The extension uses Chrome local extension storage for settings and operational state, including language, interface preferences, local Desktop connection settings, compatibility information, and temporary capture state. This information remains in your browser profile until you clear the extension data or uninstall it.

The extension requests browser permissions needed for user-facing features, including access to the active page, context-menu actions, local preferences, notifications, media detection, screenshots, and user-initiated recording. It does not use these permissions to monitor unrelated browsing activity.

The use of information received from Google APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We do not sell browser data, use it for personalized advertising, transfer it for credit or lending purposes, or allow humans to read it except with your explicit consent, when necessary for security or support, or when required by law.

8. Website and Embedded Content

Our hosting and security provider may process ordinary request information such as IP address, browser type, requested URL, timestamps, and security signals to deliver and protect kariel.app. Pages containing embedded media may also connect to that media provider when loaded or played. For example, YouTube may receive ordinary device and network information when an embedded video loads.

9. Service Providers and Data Sharing

We use service providers only to operate the functions described in this policy:

We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We may disclose information when required by law, to protect users or our services, or as part of a business transaction subject to appropriate safeguards.

10. Data Retention and Deletion

Local libraries and preferences remain on your devices until you delete them, clear the app’s data, or uninstall the relevant Kariel product. Referenced source files remain wherever you stored them and are not deleted merely by removing their Kariel references unless the app clearly tells you otherwise.

Firebase Authentication and RevenueCat retain account and subscription records as needed to provide authentication, restore purchases, prevent fraud, meet legal obligations, and resolve support requests. App stores retain transaction records under their own policies. Analytics and hosting records are retained according to the applicable service configuration and provider policy.

To request deletion of your Kariel cloud account information, including your Firebase authentication account and associated RevenueCat customer data where deletion is legally and technically available, follow the steps on our account-deletion page. We will verify and process valid requests within 30 days. Deleting cloud account information does not automatically delete local libraries from your devices or transaction records that an app store must retain.

11. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information handled by Kariel and our service providers. No storage or transmission method is completely secure. You are responsible for securing your devices, local network, library locations, and pairing credentials.

12. Children

Kariel is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through Kariel, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

13. Policy Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy when Kariel’s features, service providers, or legal obligations change. We will update the date at the top of this page when changes take effect.
