Terms of Service

Last updated: June 18, 2026

Welcome to Kariel. By downloading or using the Kariel desktop application, installing or using the Kariel Web Clipper browser extension, or using our website (kariel.app), you agree to these Terms of Service.

1. License and Kariel Pro

Kariel provides downloadable Digital Asset Management (DAM) software and a companion browser extension. We offer a free tier with basic features and may offer a premium subscription (“Kariel Pro”) that unlocks advanced capabilities.

Subject to these Terms, Kariel grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable license to use the software and browser extension for their intended purposes. You may not copy, resell, sublicense, reverse engineer, distribute modified versions of, or misuse Kariel except where applicable law expressly permits it.

Upon purchasing Kariel Pro, you are granted a license to use the premium features. If you create an account via Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In, we may use RevenueCat to validate and manage your subscription access rights.

2. Payments and Merchants of Record

For the current macOS release, Kariel Pro transactions are processed by the following entity:

3. Account Security

If you choose to authenticate your application to sync your subscription, you are responsible for maintaining the security of your third-party login credentials (Google or Apple). Kariel is not liable for any unauthorized access to your Pro subscription resulting from compromised third-party accounts.

4. Kariel Web Clipper

Kariel Web Clipper is a companion to the Kariel desktop application and requires a compatible version of Kariel Desktop to be installed and running. The extension may access the active page, user-selected media, page metadata, screenshots, screen or window content, and audio only when needed for features you initiate.

You are responsible for:

Features may not work on browser-internal pages, protected media, restricted websites, or pages that prevent access or capture. Changes made by browsers or third-party websites may also temporarily affect extension functionality.

5. Acceptable Use

You may not use Kariel to violate laws or third-party rights, distribute malware, bypass access controls or digital rights management, gain unauthorized access to systems or content, or capture private communications without required authorization.

6. Local-First Architecture and Liability

Kariel is designed as a “Local-First” application. This means your files, digital assets, metadata, and databases reside exclusively on your local hardware. We do not host, sync, or backup your files on our servers.

Therefore, Kariel is provided “as is”. We are not liable for any lost data, deleted assets, database corruption, hardware failures, or any damages that occur while using our software. You are solely responsible for maintaining independent, secure, and regular backups of your digital assets and your Kariel library data.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Kariel is provided without warranties of uninterrupted availability, compatibility with every website or media format, or fitness for a particular purpose.

7. Changes and Termination

We may update Kariel, change or discontinue features, or update these Terms. We may suspend access where necessary to address abuse, security risks, legal requirements, or material violations of these Terms. You may stop using Kariel at any time and uninstall the application or extension.

8. Governing Law

These Terms of Service and any separate agreements whereby we provide you services shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Togo.
